Job Title: Equipment Operator I, II, III

Pay Range:

Equipment Operator I: $14.84 to $22.36 per hour, dependent upon experience

Equipment Operator II: $16.38 to $24.69 per hour, dependent upon experience    

Equipment Operator III: $18.08 to $27.25 per hour, dependent upon experience

New employees typically start at the low end of the pay range.

This is a full-time position located in the Box Elder City Hall; normal schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; working some evenings and weekends.

These positions report directly to the Public Works Superintendent. 

Purpose of Job

Operator I: The purpose of this job is to operate heavy equipment to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, operating heavy equipment and vehicles to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems and perform additional tasks as assigned.

Operator II: The purpose of this job is to operate all heavy equipment and vehicles to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, operate heavy equipment and vehicles to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems and perform additional tasks as assigned.

Operator III: The purpose of this job is to assist in the supervision and operation of all heavy equipment and vehicles to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with supervision, training employees and providing technical assistance, operating heavy equipment and vehicles to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems, and perform additional tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Equipment Operator I/II (EO I/II) Minimum Qualifications: Work experience in the safe and efficient operation and minor servicing of light and medium construction and maintenance equipment. Educational background sufficient to understand work assignments is required as well as formal or informal education or training, which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. A high school diploma or a GED is preferred.  Equipment Operator I must have the ability to attain a commercial driver’s license (CDL).  Equipment Operator II must possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with proper endorsements in accordance with the state Department of Motor Vehicle regulations.

The Equipment Operator III (EO III): Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Requires two (2) years of experience at the Equipment Operator II level or have received training and have been certified to operate two pieces of equipment; May require basic computer skills; An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification. Requires a commercial driver’s license (CDL) with proper endorsements in accordance with the state Department of Motor Vehicle regulations. Preferred Qualifications: At least two (2) years of work experience at an Equipment Operator II level or have received training and certification to operate 3 pieces of equipment as an Equipment Operator II; Must be able to work with a team or independently and have strong communication skills; Computers skills are a plus; Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) is required.
