WHAT's New In Public Works Department:

The Dirt work for the new Liberty Center/Plaza is in full swing. This 110-acre parcel located at the intersection of N Ellsworth and Liberty Blvd will soon be transformed into the crown jewel of Box Elder. This area will house a state-of-the-art Fitness center, housing, and commercial property. Phase one (1) of the Fitness center is scheduled to begin construction mid May 2021 with a completion date this fall. The Liberty Center will consist of indoor basketball courts, a running track, work out rooms and other areas for cardio fitness. The Center will accessibly place for use by both our base population as well as those not active-duty military.

The Box Elder Public Works Department is made up of four divisions, Streets, Parks, Water and Sanitary Sewer.  The Street Department is responsible for street maintenance for over 33 miles of gravel and paved streets.  Maintenance consists of pothole patching, graveling blading, mowing along the rural road sections, storm sewer maintenance, establishing maintenance plans and schedules, and snow plowing. The Parks Department is responsible for care, maintenance, and improvements to the nine City parks.

The Water Department oversees the operation of the City’s water wells (water production), and the water distribution system which consists of piping, water storage tanks, pump stations, and pressure reducing stations.  The water system consists of over 78 miles of buried water mains varying in size from 4” to 16”, thousands of feet of water service lines, three water wells, four water storage tanks, 465 fire hydrants and 580 valves necessary to operate the system.  The Sewer Department oversees the sanitary sewer collection system which consists of over 48 miles of sewer collection main varying in size from 8” to 42”,  over 965 manholes and one sewer lift station.    All four divisions are responsible for establishing maintenance and improvement plans for their departments and well as assisting with budgeting.

Chris began serving as the City of Box Elder’s Public Works Assistant Director in the Spring of 2019 and his primary duties include overseeing the daily operations and required maintenance of the city’s infrastructure systems, facilities, city vehicle/equipment fleet.  Additionally, Chris brings experience and increased levels of responsibility while serving as an Air Force Civil Engineer for 24 years, primarily in the operation of electrical utilities along with general public works systems at various locations both overseas and in the continental U.S.  Finally, Chris has earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical/Mechanical Technologies from Air University and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration degree from Ashford University.
