Planning & Community
WHAT's New In Planning and Zoning:
Box Elder is at a milestone in its development and growth. Several key factors have set the stage for tremendous opportunities in Box Elder. Being the home of Ellsworth Air Force Base (EAFB), has long played a role in the development of Box Elder but this is even more evident today with EAFB being identified as the home for the Air Force new B-21 Raider bomber. This new mission will bring new personal to the base but will also create opportunities for business and industries. As the Rapid City metro area is expanding and growing eastward, the City of Box Elder plays a critical role in this expansion. These features have brought the City to engage in a community vision project to guide the community into the 21 Century.
The Planning and Zoning is here to help to facilitate land use planning efforts for the community consistent with the community’s vision. Planning and Zoning staff acts as the City’s point of contact regarding land use planning; coordinates development review for land use proposals; and ensures that the City provides citizen participation opportunities in the development process. All development proposals are coordinated with the City’s comprehensive plan, zoning, and subdivision ordinances.
