What's New in Human Resources

Carter and Wayne

Last year, the Human Resources Department was awarded the WorkWell Mental Health Grant from the South Dakota Department of Health. These funds have allowed two of our staff members (Wayne Rasmussen and Carter Smith) to pursue the Mental Health First Aid Instructor Certification. They both recently passed the instructor certification class and can now conduct trainings on the topic of Mental Health First Aid for our staff and the community!

The Human Resources Department is in the middle of the busiest hiring season ever! The City of Box Elder is growing and with that growth comes new opportunities and new positions! We currently have openings in our Public Works Department, Police Department, and our Administration Department. Check out the "Employment Opportunities" page to stay up to date when jobs come available.

On October 1st, the “Fitness Steps Challenge” kicked off and staff have been encouraged to track their weekly steps as part of our ongoing wellness initiative. Employees have walked, run, hiked, lunged, and danced their way to higher step counts which leads to more movement and more health benefits!

Congratulations to the recipients of our 3rd Quarter “Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” Award! Both Nicky Thomson and Chad Tomjack were recognized by their fellow employees for their outstanding dedication to their roles and commitment to public service.

Kenny Moore
Congratulations to Kenny Moore of Fleet Management for being the recipient of our “Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” Award for the 2nd Quarter! He was recognized by our Marketing Department for doing an outstanding job of helping all night long with the recent Community “Bike Night” Event in June.

Josh Sadler
City representatives from Public Works and Human Resources joined in the fun at the "Summer Car Classic" Community Event at City Hall. They hosted a Job Information Booth showcasing the available opportunities with the City and had cookies on hand to pass out as well! Pictured here is Josh Sadler, our Water/Wastewater Superintendent, ready to engage with the crowds!
