Box Elder City Hall
The process of city government for Box Elder began in 1962.
Three persons comprised the town board of trustees: John Beck,
Angelo Napoli, and Ethel L. Moore.
In 1964 Box Elder became a City government. On September 29,
1964, the town board set up Ordinance Number 1 which was to set
regular meeting dates. A.F. (Pat) Iliff was president. Ordinance
Number 2 was the arranging of the $2100 appropriation fund in
January 1965. Ruth E. Esposito was the town clerk.
In May of 1968, Norman Foster became the second president of
the board, with Ethel L. Moore as the first Finance Officer. The
third president was Henry J. Pesicka, Sr., in 1970.
Ordinance Number 62 changed the form of government from a
town board to the mayor form and Henry Pesicka, Sr. became the
first mayor in 1972. In 1974, Ethel Moore became mayor and the
Finance Officer was Doris Reib.
In 1976, Norman Foster was mayor, with Etta Mac Divan as
Auditor.
New city boundaries were set when West Winds and Cardinal
Heights Housing areas were added; then Flying J Truck Stop, Exit 61, on the west side. John Hughley became mayor in
1981.
Water problems plagued the town, and in 1983, well Number 4
was drilled and the problem was solved.
Sam Boykin was mayor from 1984 - 1992, Glenn Baldwin 1992 -
1994, Dave Kinser 1994 - 1996, Glenn Baldwin 1996 - 1999, Bill Maher 1999 - 2002, Vern Kienzle 2002-2004, Carolyn Haddenham 2004-2006 and the current Mayor is All Dial.
Box Elder City Hall had to move from its original location in
August of 2002, due to black mold and other dangerous types of
mold. It is in a temporary location in the Villa Ranchaero,
which has proven to be convenient for the citizens since the
Post Office, bank, beauty shops, stores, food establishments,
and Police Department are all located close by.
The new exit, Exit 67, on the east side of town, has great
potential for commericial growth.
There are three city parks at which you may wish to picnic or
just rest in the shade. The park locations are on S Ellsworth
Rd, Vucurevich Dr (off of Line Rd), and Thunderbird Homes. The park on S Ellsworth Rd
has a basketball court and baseball diamonds that are the home
of "Bandit Ball Little League." The park on Vucurevich Drive is near Box
Elder Creek and has swings, merry-go-rounds, horseshoe pits, and
other playground equipment. It has a nice picnic area too. The
Boykin park and Veterans Memorial in Thunderbird Homes is still under construction. |
